Ring Dome, New York

Pernilla Ohrstedt led the design development, detailing and construction of the Ring Dome – a delicate dome of translucent hula hoops that was knitted onto the railings of Petrosino Park in Soho New York to celebrate Storefront for Art and Architecture’s 25 year jubilee. Designed by Minsuk Cho in collaboration with Storefront for Art and Architecture, the pavilion hosted events by protagonists of Storefront’s past, present and future including performances, concerts, open discussions, film screenings and interviews.

The Ring Dome was built in three days out of 1,500 hula hoops, 12,000 zip-ties, EL wire and a slender steel frame. Ohrstedt later re-designed it together with Minsuk Cho as a completely freestanding sphere for the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Design: Minsuk Cho with Storefront for Art & Architecture (Pernilla Ohrstedt, Producer)
